the Sonnet House

There are a few wedding venues in Alabama where we return again and again, always excited about the possibility of the land and the light. . .the Sonnet House is one of those places. We’ve taken some of our favorite pictures we’ll every take there – and Jared, Corey, and Candace are always fantastic about, well, everything.

Brooke & Clay

The great thing about traveling to Hayleyville is that your mind and body acclimate on the trip – once you pass Jasper, you can feel your shoulders relaxing and an uncontrollable urge to roll the windows down and turn on some loud music. I’m always happy wherever there are fields and open spaces, and the barn reception at Clay’s grandfather’s farm was about as good as it gets as far as I’m concerned!

It is also very fun to hop into a time machine – Brooke and Clay are in an amazingly similar place in life to where we were 12 years ago – just finishing school, getting married at their home church, moving houses, starting medical school (for Brooke, like Ari). It will be an adventure, and we hope their journey is as wonderful for them as it was for us!

Thanks Angela & John from Mainstreet for video-ing the adventure with us, and thanks so much to Brooke and Clay’s families for treating us like family!!

Wren & Ethan

Wren and Ethan had a stunning wedding at the Mitchell Plantation in Bell Mina, Alabama last weekend. . .Wren had planned out her details impeccably – and walking into the soft peaches and corals of the day was seeing her Pinterest board brought to life. Their ceremony involved many of Wren’s mentor’s and friends and we loved documenting the connection and compassion they had with their guests. (The perfect light, fields with huge trees, and sunset surrounding the plantation were pretty fantastic too 🙂 )

Wendy & Andrew

Wendy and Andrew had a beautiful wedding at their family lake house at Lake Martin. Her family was involved in all the details of the day from the music to the flowers to the cafe lights on the front lawn, and Rachel of Two Hearts Weddings and Events helped mastermind bringing their vision to life. . . We always love bing outside with twinkle lights, but the little touches are what made it truly special – the bride’s cake was beautiful and the groom’s cake was insane – an exact replica of their 1970s getaway boat. The biggest surprise (at least to us) of the night was when the groom got called up to play drums with the band and blew everybody away with how talented he was playing Sweet Child of Mine (David stopped taking pictures for a second in admiration).

Wendy made a point from the minute we walked in to let us know how much she loved what we did and trusted our ability to capture her wedding – “and make art, not just photos” – as she described. We had a wonderful day rising to that invitation and challenge and can’t thank them enough for making us feel so welcome and giving us so much freedom to do just that.

Elizabeth & Greg

Elizabeth and Greg had an epic wedding at Dorgan’s Inn in Fairhope. A beautiful day, beautiful venue, fantastic flowers and impeccable details, and an amazingly fun wedding party made for amazing pictures. This was the latest of several weddings I’ve photographed in the Auburn tri-delt family, it was wonderful to see Chelsea and the Reitz’s

Trotline rocked the music and Dana Goodman coordinated the wedding, both were great!
