Ashlen & Zack

Ashlen and Zack are fantastically cool and creative people, and definitely have mad style:) They had a colorful wedding at Rancho de las Aguilas, a beautiful new venue just outside of Birmingham. We had a blessedly cool day in July, perfect for an outdoor wedding and dance party! Ashlen’s family and friends put together all the details – they did a fantastic job. How awesome are Ashlen’s dress and shoes – pretty much amazing! I also love, love their band, The Negotiators – always perfect for a party crowd.

One of my favorite moments was when Charlie (the ring bearer) saw the flower girl and excitedly asked, “Do you like my outfit?” Too cute!

David & Ari

In honor of ten years, I’m excited to share my own wedding pictures! We were babies when we got married, about three weeks after we graduated from Furman. Arianna was starting med-school and I was a waiter – this was several years before I started taking pictures. Arianna gave B&W film to all of her friends and family who had decent cameras, and the church photographer did the formal pictures. There were some fun moments like my sister fainting, and Arianna’s sister meeting her future husband (their first dance together is the third picture from the bottom). Most important, though, it was the day that God joined us together – pretty amazing!

It’s funny, our pictures were not technically the greatest ever, but as I look through, I learned a ton from them that still affects the way I shoot today. I always have in mind the angles and pictures that we loved from our wedding when I am out shooting.

I had a realization at my brother’s wedding some 8 years after Arianna and I were married. I’m pretty much convinced that I married the most amazing girl in the world. She is fantastic and so good for me in countless ways! But seeing my brother and his bride, and their happiness, I realized that I am not the only one who can have the dream marriage. . .that Erica could be as perfect for him as Arianna is for me. My hope is the same for all of my couples. . .that their wedding could be the beginning of a journey as amazing as mine has been.

A couple of other thoughts. . .in addition to doctoring, Arianna does a big chunk of shooting, editing, and planning for Unplugged Photography. She can’t be at every wedding because of her schedule in the E.R., but she has turned into a downright fantastic photographer, and she does look through and edit parts of everything we shoot. I’m pretty terrible about getting the blog updated, so she’s taking over that task – so hopefully we’ll have some great previews on the blog every week for the coming months of wedding season!

Verena & Josh

When Verena asked if we were available for a Friday wedding in July, I thought, “of course!”. It wasn’t until a few days later that I realized it was our 10 year wedding anniversary! But we do really love shooting weddings and Verena (and her bridesmaids and many of her guests) are good friends of ours, so we decided it would be a fun way to celebrate. Sure enough, it was a wonderful day and I don’t think I’ve ever seen Arianna have so much fun taking pictures.

Verena and Josh are tango ninjas, hence the amazing dancing pictures and Verena’s short dress for the reception. Josh was also super-involved in planning: he had the suits custom-made (kblazia.com), cut the groomsmen’s flowers himself, and he even made the five-tier wedding cake. The wedding and reception were at Callanwolde Arts Center in Atlanta, a very beautiful venue.

Joy and Michael

Joy and Michael are rad. . .I love that Joy is a total goofball and completely real around Michael, it will be the basis of a great life together! Michael is a meteorologist and ordered us an 85 degree day in June, which was perfect for an outdoor ceremony/reception at Ross Bridge. I had a fantastic time – it was an honor getting to know their families and friends, which is one of the joys of shooting an intimate wedding.

Erica & Chad

Erica and Chad had a beautiful wedding at the Sonnet House in May, one of our favorite places to shoot in beautiful weather. We teamed up again with Anita from AK Brides, Carol from Lillie’s Flowers, and Andy Tolar from Design Productions for a flawless day. Erica’s dress was from Ivory and White.

They had an elegant laid back affair with a fantastic dance party at the end where Erica and Chad were front and center. We went back to the Tutwiler with them after the reception ended for a few photos and Chad had the idea to put them on the balcony of their suite to take some pictures from across the street – with some luck and some teamwork we got a great shot from far away that we’d never taken before.
